Nothing could deter this brave heart, who was an artillery officer FOO (Forward Observation Officer) and attached with 2Rajputana Rifles in the Kargil War.
He successfully, along with his troops conquered the Kargil Peaks — Tololing, The Hump, and Three Pimples, and became a Kargil War Hero. The Kargil War, the most difficult war India fought till date. When the young officers of the Indian Army set an example for the rest of the world – Lead from the front, in the most challenging terrain of the Kargil War. He is a man of action and not mere words and this he exhibited with his Leadership in a crisis’s situation in the Kargil war. At the time of the Kargil war, Captain Akhilesh Saxena got injured by the enemy artillery shelling and was admitted at the base hospital, Delhi Cantt for around one year. This Kargil War Hero got disabled and accepted the posting in the Army Headquarters. Now the dilemma between opting for a secure job or joining a management course to explore new unconquered avenues began.
He chose the latter and emerged a winner there as well. He was a gold medallist of 2004 batch of full-time MBA course at Delhi University’s Faculty of Management Studies (FMS). After his stint with an IT company and telecom company, he joined the TATA group, with which he had a standard connection of Passion, Commitment and Ethics which were imbibed from his parents and the Indian Army.
Education
Captain Akhilesh Saxena completed his early education at Sainik School Ghorakhal Nainital from 1984 to 1991. He got selected for NDA in 1991 and underwent rigorous training successfully at National Defence Academy Khadakwasla Pune from 1991 to 1994. He joined the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun in Dec,1994 and he was commissioned as a lieutenant into the Indian Army on 9 Dec 1995. The transition from Indian Army to Corporate sector began when this young battle-toughened soldier got injured in the Kargil War and got disabled. He chose to work where he can feel more satisfied than dependent. He raised as a Corporate Leader and moved on from the Army to join a full-time MBA course at the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) and passed out with a gold medal in 2004. He has consistently exhibited excellent performance and is considered as a forerunner to take up a top management position in corporate. He went to Michigan University for Executive Leadership Course.

The Kargil War
Captain Akhilesh Saxena was posted at the battlefield of the Kargil War just a few weeks after he got married. During the Kargil War in 1999, This Kargil War Hero was at the forefront of some of the most challenging battles. He led three crucial attacks in the Kargil War and provided accurate artillery support to reclaim strategic positions: Tololing, Hump, and Three Pimples. These operations were pivotal in the Indian Army’s efforts to regain control of territories infiltrated by enemy forces. These operations involved navigating treacherous terrain and facing relentless enemy fire. Despite these challenges, Captain Akhilesh motivated his troops and led from the front, achieving decisive victories. These positions were crucial for regaining control of the Drass sector, a turning point in the Kargil War.
Attack of Tololing:
This Kargil War Hero got attached to 2-rajputana rifles as an Artillery Forward Observation Officer (FOO). He showcased immense dedication to fight with enemy. In the battle for Tololing peak, Captain Akhilesh Saxena orchestrated the firing of 120 artillery guns, a pivotal contribution that marked India's critical victory in the Kargil War on 13 June,1999. Attack of Hump:
With the pace of War soon after the Tololing victory This Kargil War Hero got attached with 13JAK rifles as an Artillery Forward Observation Officer (FOO) for the attack of Hump. There this Kargil War Veteran spent two days with Captain Vikram Batra. To maintain the victory and lead the troops in case of counter attack of the enemy he stayed on the peaks for several days in the thick of the Kargil War.
Attack of Three Pimples Area:
Soon, 2-Rajputana Rifles got another assignment to capture Three Pimples Area. They preferred same Artillery officer who helped them winning Tololing. So, Captain Akhilesh again got attached with them as an Artillery Forward Observation Officer (FOO). Captain Saxena’s Leadership under fire was marked by exceptional courage and tactical brilliance.
During the third mission, Captain Akhilesh got severely injured by enemy shelling during the third mission but ensured the success of his mission and continued, and his team emerged victoriously. This Motivational Speaker walked five hours downhill to get First Aid with the profusely bleeding injured hand to live another day for his country. Finally got evacuated on 29 june,1999. This Motivational Speaker had to undergo a series of medical procedures and admitted to the hospital for around a year to recover from the injuries. His injuries resulted in a prolonged hospital stay and permanent disability, but his contributions to the Kargil victory remain a testament to his indomitable spirit.
